A GROUP set up to help forces' families during the war with Iraq has been inundated with offers of gifts for the troops from local people and businesses.
Founder member Irene Moran, of Morecambe, says she has been amazed at the response after she contacted a few local businesses.
"My house is absolutely full at the moment. The response has been fantastic," says Mrs Moran, whose sons Scott and Andrew are serving in the Gulf.
About 20 members of the local Gulf Family Support Group met this week to make up gifts into 150 parcels.
In accordance with Army advice, these will be sent to named serving soldiers about 15 of them with local families who will then distribute the items among friends.
The parcels contain items such as toiletries, sun-tan lotion and sweets all of which will be much appreciated.
The Lancaster and Morecambe support group was formed when Mrs Moran was put in touch with Kendal's Pam Flitcroft who set up a website to provide emotional support for relatives.
As well as offering emotional support, the group can help relatives exchange news and information about what is happening.
"It really helps to talk to people who are in the same situation. I really thought I was going barmy at first," says Wendy, a member whose 19-year-old son Stephen is serving in the Gulf.
