KENDAL dentist John Hall is limbering up for his third London Marathon this Sunday to raise money for sufferers of Lupus.

The Kendal Mountain Search and Rescue Team member has raised more than £5,000 in the past three years for Lupus UK, the charity which supports people with Lupus and funds research into the condition, whose symptoms include extreme fatigue, eye problems and joint pain.

The 46-year-old has been clocking up 50 to 60 miles per week, running by streetlight through Kendal, and at weekends stretching his legs on Cunswick and Scout Scars, The Helm, Castle Hill and around Levens Park.

"I'm actually feeling very confident this year that I'm going to break the time I've wanted to break for the last few years that's three hours 30 minutes. This year is the first that I haven't gone into it suffering from Achilles tendonitis, which is really good."

Mr Hall, who will be running the marathon with his younger sister Jayne, of Wakefield, said he was once again "indebted" to his sponsors. Friends and patients of Hall and Smith Dental Surgery have donated more than £1,200 so far this year and money is still coming in. Anybody who would like to make a donation is welcome to call into the surgery at 147 Stricklandgate, tel 01539-729552.
