SIR, The question of who should control the spending of the

predicted £1.6 million windfall which South Lakeland District Council will collect when the 50 per cent council tax on second homes is abolished, leaves no doubt in my mind.

Instead of the politicians resorting to a dog fight over the spoils, the noble thing to do over the next 10 years would be to return the £16 million to whom it rightly belongs; namely, those South Lakeland residents who have unstintingly subsidised second home owners since the inception of the council tax.
