PLANS for 11 affordable apartments off Lickbarrow Close, Windermere, have been rejected by Lake District planners.
The plans by Impact Housing Association for flats for locals on an unkempt area of rough grassland outside the built-up area of Windermere attracted strong local opposition. Highways authority Cumbria County Council also strongly recommended the plans for refusal.
It was concerned about danger to road users from limited visibility, and did not wish to see any proposal that would significantly increase traffic in that location. The Lake District National Park Authority's development control committee rejected the apartments plan on the grounds of highway safety and excessive scale.
