DOZENS of students were safely evacuated from their halls of residence on Monday night (November 4) after a fire broke out in a kitchen microwave.
All 40 students at St Martin's Fairfield Hall of Residence, Ambleside, were ushered out of their halls just after 11pm as fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire.
Assistant divisional fire officer Tom Donnelly said the kitchen on the top floor of a four-storey building on Rydal Road was smoke damaged but the fire was contained within one room.
