A REQUEST by a Kendal councillor for Kendal Town Council to release funds to cover a planning application for a sports and athletics track was turned down by the council at its meeting on Monday.
The council considered a request by Coun Simon Butterfield, writing on behalf of the Kendal and District Sports and Athletics Association.
Coun Butterfield asked the council to release part of the £20,000 set aside for an athletics track.
An estimated sum of between £220 and £ 1,000 would be needed to make the planning application for land adjacent to Appleby Road, said Coun Butterfield.
But councilors agreed with Coun Andy Shine that they could not support this particular application, although they supported the idea of an athletics track.
