ULVERSTON historians Jennifer Snell and Bernard Ellis are giving a talk entitled Tales from the Sands in Dickensian time next Thursday at 7.30pm in the Coronation Hall.
The tales will include rescue missions from Canal Foot, ships that disappeared in the shifting sands and trains that went missing in disused mine shafts.
All the proceeds from the event will go towards the cost of staging Ulverston's Dickensian festival on November 23 and 24.
Tickets cost £4.50 and are available from Ulverston' s Tourist Information Centre.
