THE benefits of communities forging cultural links with their counterparts on the Continent were debated at a town twinning conference in north Lancashire.
Hosted by the Kellets Twinning Association, in Over Kellet village hall, the North West Twinning Federation event attracted representatives from more than 20 towns from north Lancashire and South Lakeland, who reported back on successful exchanges.
Lord Inglewood MEP spoke of the value of town twinning trips, and Dr van Broekhoven, from Dordrecht, in Holland, described to delegates how exchanges were organised in his country.
David Bertram, of the Cockermouth Twinning Association, was presented with an illuminated scroll plaque to mark the town's success in picking up a Council of Europe prize for its twinning work.
