TALKS aimed at averting fire-fighters' strikes stalled again this week raising the prospect that the Army's ageing Green Goddess fire engines will take to the streets of Cumbria.

But the union, which has made plans for a two-day strike starting on Wednesday, November 13, said talks had broken down because the employers had failed to come up with a figure for a new pay deal.
