PHOENIX (Windermere) Judo club netted an impressive tally of two gold, three silver and three bronze medals at a Cumbria-wide competition.
Peter Simm (U30kg) set the standard, throwing each of his six opponents with classical techniques to take the gold.
Ewan Minford had a tough challenge when the boys U38 and 42kg categories were combined, but he battled his way to gold against heavier opposition.
Sisters Kelsey and Mica Nelson both won silver medals in their respective categories.
Kelsey used her long legs to great advantage to produce winning throws, while Mica demonstrated great deter-mination as both girls won two out of their three contests.
Brandon Williamson and Jake Sanders had to face each other in the boys U34kg section.
Sanders won that battle and went on to take the silver, while Williamson won his two subsequent fights with skilful throwing to take the bronze.
Kyle Williamson produced one of the best throws of the day on his way to bronze in the boys IU42kg group and Hayley Slater took another bronze in the girls U55kg section.
Andy Bennett, Simon Birkett, Mark Gawne-Cain and Chris Simm represented Phoenix in the men's team event.
They just missed out on the medals, finishing fifth, despite brown belt Simm scoring three wins against black-belt opponents.
