COLLEGE staff were manning picket lines yesterday during a one-day strike over further education pay.
Lecturers and support staff from Kendal College and Barrow's Furness College joined in the nationwide industrial action called by the UNISON and the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education (NATFHE).
The unions want lecturers' salaries to be raised to match those of school teachers and want better pay for support staff whose pay, they say, has fallen behind that of other public sector workers.
Students' classes were cancelled during the strike.
