WHEN 14-year-old Lucy Ratcliff died in a tragic road accident last year, her friends were devastated.

Dallam School, where she was a pupil, opened a ' memory book' so that friends could record their memories of the "bright and bubbly" teenager who was injured in an accident in Fernleigh Road in Grange-over-Sands.

Lucy was taken to hospital in Liverpool where she died on November 5.

But now the first anniversary of her death is to be commemorated in a very special way, reports Helen Long.

Two Dallam pupils, Charlotte Hudson and Kerry Brocklebank, have written and recorded a song about Lucy which will be sold in local shops.

Proceeds from the CD will be given to Lucy's parents, Mary and Jeremy Ratcliff, who will make a donation to a charity of their choice in memory of their daughter.

Charlotte and Kerry will also perform their song, entitled Missing You, at a school assembly in memory of Lucy on November 6, attended by Lucy's parents.

Lucy had been going out with one of Charlotte's brothers, Christopher, when the accident happened and she was a regular visitor to the Hudson family home in Meathop.

"Lucy just slotted in.

Everyone liked her - she just had that kind of personality which was really bright and bubbly," said Charlotte's mother, Mandy.

Although Charlotte is a keen musician she had never written a song before but Mrs Hudson feels that the process helped her and Kerry to cope.

"We composed the song together and then sang it to our English teacher, Mr Barras, who got some friends to play the guitar and helped us put it on tape," said 13-year-old Charlotte.

"It felt better saying what we felt about Lucy instead of bottling it all up."

As well as putting the CD in local shops, Charlotte and Kerry hope to sell it in school.
