A DRIVER of a Group 4 prison van was lifted by air ambulance to Preston Royal Infirmary when her vehicle overturned on the A595 between Millom and Broughton-in-Furness last Friday morning, February 16.
The accident happened on a sharp bend at Hallthwaites Church and the female driver had to be cut free by Barrow firefighters.
Her 26-year-old male passenger from Lancashire, who was not a prisoner, was taken to Furness General Hospital for treatment.
Millom police believe the accident was caused by black ice on a notoriously bad bend.
Police declined to name the victims.
