THE National Trust has won the right to carry out work on a track in Little Langdale following a government planning inspector's ruling.
The unsurfaced and unclassified Hallgarth access track will be partially widened by moving sections of wall, widening a gateway and breaking out rock.
The track serves four properties, one of which - Low Hallgarth Farm Cottage - is vacant.
The National Trust proposes to improve this for a permanent tenant.
The widened track would enable a 'mini tanker' to serve the cottage with heating oil, and enable emergency vehicles to gain access.
The Lake District National Park Authority had refused planning permission after a site visit last year.
