FROM toddlers to grandparents - the people of Sedgwick have all contributed to a wall hanging which celebrates the Millennium.

The project, which went on display in Sedgwick Village Hall at the weekend, illustrates life in the village in the year 2000.

The wall hanging, or 'quilt', was officially unveiled on Friday evening by Mr and Mrs Bagot, of Levens Hall, who also opened an exhibition of photographs connected with the village.

The wall hanging is made up of 30 squares, with the middle squares showing an aerial map of the village from the banks of the River Kent at Force Bridge to Crosscrake Churchyard and Crosscrake School in the east.

Fields, roads and houses are all depicted as well as sheep and cows and even a couple of tractors.

The outer squares have been expertly designed and sewn by local organisations ranging from the local Beaver group to Sedgwick Parish Council.

The artistic method used for depicting the squares varied from toddlers who used their hands and feet, to sewing and more conventional types of collage work.

The wall hanging was started in the summer of 1999 and will now be kept permanently in Sedgwick Village Hall, as a reminder of the talent and landscape of the village at the Millennium.
