MEMBERS of the public helped rescue two men trapped up to their waist in quicksand off Arnside promenade.
The coastguard station at Liverpool was alerted by Martin Rowe, who runs the Photogenic shop in the town, when he spotted the men, from Clitheroe, in difficulties on the sands on Saturday afternoon.
An off-duty coastguard also went to their aid and managed to loop a rope round one of the men and drag him to safety.
Neither of the men were injured.
