DALTON market could be given a new lease of life, with a move to a new location.

Plans for the re-siting of the outdoor market - from Nelson Street to a new site in Tudor Square - are to go before Barrow-in-Furness planning committee.

It is hoped that the market might be operating from its new site by Easter, chairman of Dalton With Newton Town Council, Coun Ian Singleton said this week.

The outdoor market, held every Tuesday, currently occupies a car park in Nelson Street, which was needed for parking, said coun Singleton.

Since the re-location of the Co-op, the number of people using the market had dropped and consequently the number of traders had also fallen.

It was hoped that a move to the more central, Tudor Street site, which was also near a bus stop, would invigorate the market, he said.
