A MEETING is being held to see how many new market stalls can be bought for traders in Ulverston.
South Lakeland District Council's town centre manager Jayne Harris is to meet with Ulverston's mayor Dave Miller to put together a budget for purchasing new stands.
As previously reported in the Gazette, Tom Smith, the man who had owned and put up the stalls for some traders in the town, retired and sold the stands outside the district, after SLDC refused to buy them.
Mrs Harris said she hoped the meeting with Mr Miller would enable the town council and district council to resolve the situation.
"A lot of stall-holders do bring their own stalls," she said.
"It is unusual to have stalls provided by a third party but it has been thus in Ulverston for many years so even if we can't find someone to put them up, we hope to be able to supply them."
