AN organisation working for the welfare of farmers has reported helping a record number of families and individuals in the past year.
The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Society assisted 1,647 families and individuals and spent more than £2.4 million helping those in need with nearly £196,000 spent on helping farming families who called the RABI helpline.
RABI chief executive Richard Duckett said: "There may be signs of an easing in the agricultural crisis but we expect the knock-on effects to be felt for some time yet.
The number of farming families needing our help is likely to continue to increase for the foreseeable future with a growing number of farmers forced into a retirement for which the y are not prepared."
