Silloth 13, Ambleside 18.
AMBLESIDE took the bare 15 plus super-sub evergreen Charlie Rigg to Silloth for a Cumbria League match, only their second outing since Christmas.
Ambleside started well, pressurising Silloth into giving away three penalties all of which were clinically dispatched by stand-off Neil Irwin.
Silloth charged down a clearance kick by the Ambleside full back and the ball was kicked forward for the Silloth wing to win the race and score the game's only try, which was then converted.
From then on it was a tight contest with the lead changing hands.
Both teams had plenty of possession but good defence by both sides prevented any further tries and the result was settle by the kickers.
Silloth kicked another two penalties while Irwin completed a faultless day with the boot, putting over another three to seal an 18-13 victory.
Andrew Muir, back from injury, gave a good performance in the back row in his first appearance of the season.
