REGULARS at Kendal Jazz club are in for a treat tonight (Friday) in the guise of sophisticated jazz vocalist Anne De Vere.

With a semi-professional pianist for a father and a mother who sang, the baby De Vere grew up in a music-infused household and before long was making her own voice heard.

In her twenties she fell in love with modern jazz and began collecting albums on the classic Blue Note label and before you could say "Peggy Lee" she had established herself on the jazz circuit.

It was working at the prestigious Dolce Vita night club in Newcastle upon Tyne that she came into contact with some of the finest jazz singers on both sides of the Atlantic and their influence remains with her today.

Besides singing her own material, the audience at The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal, will be treated to jazz standards and some rediscovered obscure gems.

De Vere said: "I've been singing other folk's songs all my life and recognise a good tune when I hear it."
