LAKES and walks go hand in hand like crumpets and cream.

You just can't separate the two.

So what has walking got to do with the web? Lots.

Walkers are talkers and they love to share their tales.

What better way than with a web site.

We were so impressed with the vast number of sites that we designed a page on www.thisisthelakedistrict.co.uk - Walks online - to help link people to Lakes walks using the web.

Of course, there are the tourist-oriented information sites like Cumbria Tourist Board's (www.golakes.co.uk) and Lake District Park Authority's Park Life (www.lake-district.gov.uk, which offer walking information and more.

Another site, www.lake-district.com, 'the official Lake District information site' offers some excellent links.

One worth noting is John Dawson's site, www.lakedistrictwalks.com, which features more than 40 walks arranged by geographic area.

The choice is yours.

On the other side of the Lakes are the Pennines - and www.pennineway.demon.co.uk has all you need to know to get out and about in that neck of the woods.

If you want to really want to make tracks try the Coast-to-Coast walk.

Alfred Wainwright dreamed it up and the reality of crossing the country through three national parks and some of the country's most fantastic scenery has made memories for many.

Visit www.coast2coast.co.uk for inspiration and information.

thisis site of the week: Our history with reporting on web walks goes back to 1999 when Web Watch featured postman Tony Richard's site featuring photos from his route around the Langdale area.

You must visit his site www.lakelandcam.co.uk for a selection of Lakes views that will make your mouth water - or your feet itch.

His eye on the Lakes is breath taking.

If you don't have time for a walk - at least take a look around! For this and other web cam views around the lakes, click on our Web Cam Wonders link on our home page.
