KENDAL have registered a South African threequarter Chris Malherbe to join them for the rest of the season.
Malherbe - no relation to the player of the same surname who was with the club several seasons ago - has a similar background to compatriot Ian Voortman, who is recuperating from a badly broken leg.
A product of Stellenbosch University, he has represented Western Province and is just about to start a gap year after completing his sports science studies.
He will not count as an overseas player if he succeeds in obtaining an EEC ancestral visa because he has an English grandfather.
Kendal registered Malherbe before Saturday's National League cut-off period, having signed him up through a contact of the club's commercial advisor Howie Nicholson.
Kendal scrum-half Jimmy Thompson report fit for Saturday's trip to Nottingham after being taken off on a neck stretcher in last Saturday's win against West Hartlepool.
He is included in the starting line-up but flanker Mark Bowman is unavailable to travel.
