HIGHLY-charged emotions erupt between perfectly-delivered one-liners, ensuring David Hare's Skylight is both thought-provoking and humorous.

David Bond is compelling as the larger-than-life, self-made restaurateur Tom, who has expensive tastes and is missing the woman who once filled his life.

But their affair ended three years ago and Kyra, the talented Kristin Hutchinson, has moved on to pursue a very different life as a dedicated teacher at an inner city comprehensive.

Tom surprises her with a visit to her north London flat where their love story is unravelled as they struggle to balance their political ideals with their private lives.

Howard Gossington, who plays Tom's teenage son Edward, brings some light relief to this contemporary play through his rebellion against his father and all he stands for.

Ideally suited to the studio at The Dukes, Lancaster, the production draws the audience into an intense arena of ideas and discussions, intermingled with smells of real cooking from the kitchenette.

With a cast of just three, it would be easy for the production to have become a string of monologues.

Credit must go to the actors for ensuring it was an engaging and authentic performance, and to the director Ian Hastings for the brilliant attention to detail.
