YOUNG people are less likely to drink-drive than middle-aged motorists, says Cumbria's chief constable, Colin Phillips.
He told Cumbria Police Authority that the number of arrests and positive breath-tests in the county was "on a fairly even keel", despite publicity about the crime.
Drink-driving was declining among young drivers, and middle-aged people made up the highest proportion of people arrested for the offence, he said.
"Among young people it's virtually died a death," added Mr Phillips.
