RIDING on the back of Finger Lickin' Records' visit to Lancaster Town Hall, where they were met with a packed house, break beats are making a return to the North in the guise of Renegade Soundwave and Dreadzone.

Jane Randall, of Proper Records, Lancaster, who was one of the forces behind the first dance event, told the Gazette that things had gone down so well last month that it proved there was a real demand for more of the same.

She said: "The last event, which featured DJ Justin Rushmore AKA Soul of Man, was one of the most successful nights in Lancaster's dance music history and firmly established the need for more quality breaks nights."

So on February 2, break beat is coming home to Lancaster.

The night will feature a set from Koma & Bones who having established themselves as recording artists in 2000, are fast becoming favourites of TCR (Thursday Record Club).

And next Friday should see them returning to the decks in front of a home crowd.

Headlining the night are Renegade Soundwave and Dreadzone, both playing DJ sets.

Jane said : "These artists really need no introduction, they continue a strong tradition of quality DJs playing at Lancaster's most austere venue, the Town Hall.

Acme Bass and Proper Records, who are behind the night, say they are keen to stick with the tradition of showcasing local artists, so this week Lancaster's Jossa will once more be supporting the line-up.

Jossa forms one half of breakbeat collaboration Jinx, whose first release is available now through Unique Distribution.

Tickets are £9 in advance (£10 on the door) and are available from Proper Records, King Street, Lancaster.
