SOME of Cumbria's top liars will try and fib there way through the Grizedale Show being staged this weekend.

The Festival of Lying runs from 10am-5pm in the theatre as part of Grizedale's second open weekend, and has been devised by artists Anna Best, Karen Guthrie, Nina Pope and Simon Poulter who have recently completed a residency at Grizedale.

The four new lies which have been developed with the artists' input will unfold during the evening session, and include John Graham, a farmer from Silloth, who is widely held to be the greatest living liar in the world, delivering his lies in broad Cumbrian dialect with a particularly caustic sense of humour.

The programme will incorporate speakers from the areas of journalism, crop circle making, psychometrics, e-commerce and the paranormal and function in an atmosphere of inquiry and debate.

Former Guardian columnist and writer Jon Ronson will chair the panel on lying.

And Rob Irving will deconstruct and put the record straight on crop circles.

The Little Liars Contest featuring pupils from Carnforth and Fritzington starts at 2pm.

Other capers over the weekend include walks, children's events, falconry, and lumberjack demonstrations and a Forest Art Tour (Saturday, 5.30-7pm).

The artist-in-residence will be out and about giving talks about the work at Grizedale, on Sunday.

And the special, stylish stretch limo mobile video suite will be on hand for all to see running forest tours throughout Saturday.
