KENDAL is awash with cracking artwork at the moment, with the superb Abbot Hall Art Gallery Ruskin and the Light of Nature exhibition and the 'around-the-town' Kendal Windows on Art event.

And to add an eye-catching slice of contemporary work, some of the region's student have joined the arts trail with an exhibition at the Brewery Art Centre's Foyer Gallery.

The Secondary Schools display, which features A level and GCSE examination work, runs until September 29 and ties in with Kendal Windows on Art.

Dropping in to the Brewery for a quick look I'm impressed.

There's bags of character and lots of figurative work.

Gina and Gemma hold off in Kirkbie Kendal's Jessica Fellows oil.

And Gemma Jackson's (also from KK) sultry self portrait captures her reflective mood.

Lighting up the gallery wall, the eyes dance to the bright tango tones of Ulverston Victoria High's Hayley Webster's Arches prints, with the teary Eye of Karen Swarbrick's oil on canvas, focused fiercely on the viewer.

Karen is a student of Kirkby Lonsdale's Queen Elizabeth School.

Another good work is by John Ruskin School student Libby Blundell, with a clever ink, Forest Drawing.

Modern works from forward thinking talents.
