LORRY drivers who want Kirkby Stephen's lorry ban lifted may spark a public inquiry.
The Freight Transport Association has objected to the experimental ban being made permanent, saying it forces drivers to travel through unsuitable settlements such as Kirkby Thore; increases air pollution because diverted HGVs release more carbon dioxide; means drivers have to work almost 64,000 extra hours every year because of diversions; and costs the industry £1.9 million per year in fuel, tyres and maintenance.
