LANCASTER Jazz 2000 gets under way on Thursday (September 21, 12.45pm) with a lunchtime concert by the Gershwin Gang at John's Church.

The long list of superb events include a special dance night at the Gregson Centre on the same day (8.30pm) with the Sruti Box All Star Unhiphop Hazardous Beat Vox Ensemble, joined by South African virtuoso pianist Mervyn Africa.

Jazz FM's Hed Kandi DJ Mark Doyle features in Big Fat Dance Beats at Morecambe's Platform on Friday (September 22, 8pm) and the Tommy Smith Group echoes the music of Ellington at the Dukes Playhouse the day after (Saturday).

Various venues supply the jazz for the Pub Trail on the Sunday from 12.30pm-6pm (which includes a performance by the Clare Hirst Quartet at Fibber McGees) and Billy Jenkins Blues Collective play the Gregson Centre on the Sunday (8.15pm).

In addition, The Sue Parish Band is just one of the many great attractions playing on Saturday (September 23) on Sun Street from 12noon-5pm, with other jazz musicians playing in the Market Square.
