DALTON police are appealing for the public to help them trace a monkey that has escaped from South Lakes Wildlife Park.
The Capuchin monkey, which is described as around 18 inches tall and light beige in colour, was last seen by the zoo staff at 11am this morning at Romney Park at the edge of Dalton.
Sgt John McIntosh said: "Staff from the wildlife park are currently searching the area for the monkey and would like to stress that although it is not thought to be a danger to the public, it should not be approached.
"If anybody in the area sees the animal, they are asked to please contact police immediately on 0845 33 00 247
