DOWN on the farm we are just on with getting ready to get our second cut silage as it has started to ‘head’.

So as long as everything goes to plan, by the time you are reading this the silage should be clamped in the pit, all sheeted up with fertiliser and slurry spread, growing again ready for third cut.

We’ve also made some excellent hay this year with the wonderful weather it has made the job easier. We use the hay to feed the calves which helps the rumen to function to its full capacity.

We’re also on with putting a high level silo bin in at the farm to store our dry blend in - we are doing this to save time and to make the job more efficient because at the moment we tip it in the shed then have to load it into the mixer wagon using the tractor and loader. Hopefully this will speed up the job of feeding.

Other jobs on our daily to-do list at the moment include having to take water out to our dry cows as many of our springs are slowly drying up due to this fantastic dry weather.

On the YFC front, we’re as busy as ever with plenty of activities and events. It never stops!
