CUMBRIA has been ranked one of the top in the country for fixing potholes, with a 99 per cent record for repairing road defects.
The figures were compiled by the Cyclists’ Touring Club (CTC) – the largest cycling membership organisation in the UK – which is encouraging road users to report hazards to it.
CTC says Cumbria has currently fixed 99 per cent of the reported road defects its fillthathole.org.uk website has passed through to them, making it the third best council out of 212 authorities.
This compares to a national average of 31 per cent of road defects being repaired once reported.
Once CTC receives a report of a pothole or road defect, which can come in via its website or a special iPhone app, it then passes the details on to the correct authority and tracks the progress in getting the hazard fixed.
The top two councils, Redbridge and Luton, cover a much smaller area than Cumbria’s 4,785 miles of highway.
