What is the best thing about the Lakes?

It’s got to be the people. However beautiful a place is, if the people aren't friendly, honest, quirky and unique, you might as well be on Mars.

And the worst?

I know this feature would be called ‘Why I love the dust bowls’ without it, but it must be the rain. The wet summers are so depressing.

Favourite view?

Driving to work every morning and coming down the hill to see the mist settled over Windermere.

Favourite place?

My favourite place indoors is The Old Laundry Theatre at Bowness before a show, when there’s a great feeling of anticipation and everyone is about to enjoy a good night out.

Outdoors, I love the view of the Lakeland hills from my garden in Sedgwick.

Favourite place to eat?

Hawkshead Brewery has a new cafe bar with a tapas menu which is great.

What one thing would you change?

I would alter the cycle routes through Kendal so that they don't just come to an abrupt halt for no apparent reason.

Sum up the Lakes in 5 words: Eighth wonder of the world.
