WE HAVE been busy spreading slurry this week, including a couple of days carting slurry in a tanker to land which we own situated away from the farm.
We’ve also had farm contractor Steve Hodgson in with the specialist ‘umbilical cord’ equipment – the most efficient and fastest way to spread slurry – and we’ve been filling up gaps in our dry stone walls after the severe frosts led to a lot of the dry stone walls falling down.
Thankfully, the fertiliser has landed this week ready for spring as it approaches. It is well timed as the silage pit was quickly emptying – the back wall of the pit seemed to be getting closer and closer very quickly.
We’ve also been on with trimming cow’s feet this week, which seems to be a never-ending job but is always a satisfying one. I also had some cast ewes at the mart this week and we had a good trade.
The Young Farmers Club had the district annual meeting at the Castle Green Hotel. What a great evening.
