BOYBAND mega stars JLS took their high-flying career to a new level when they sky-dived into South Lakeland.

Fans of the group could not believe their luck when Aston, Marvin, Jonathan and Ortise turned up at the SkyDive North West centre, at Cark, to film their new film.

Cutting a dash in blue and yellow sky-dive suits, Aston Merrygold, Ortise Williams and Jonathan ‘JB’ Gill jumped from 14,500 feet in tandem dives with local instructors.

Heart-throb Marvin Humes had to miss out because of a head cold. But he promised to return with his pop star girlfriend Rochelle, from The Saturdays, to give the dare-devil sport a go.

“They were really lovely lads,” said Kay Carruthers, co-owner of the sky-dive company. “They were all a bit nervous as it was their first ever sky-dive and were absolutely buzzing afterwards saying it was the best thing they’ve ever done.”

Mrs Carruthers was called by their management company earlier this year to ask if she would be happy for them to film scenes for the band’s new 3D film, Eyes Wide Open, due to be released in June.

“We had to keep it quiet, but when they turned up in a bright orange tour bus I think word got round the village pretty quickly they were here.

“By the time they landed around 30 local kids and their parents had turned up and they happily signed autographs for them. "They even sang some of their new single Eyes Wide Shut for the crowds. It was brilliant!”

The London four-piece, who shot to fame on ITV’s X Factor, also mucked in when their tour bus got stuck in soft ground at the airfield.

“We got a local farmer to come with his tractor to help get them out, but the boys got absolutely stuck in giving the bus a push from the back.

“They were so down to earth getting out and mucking in like that,” added Mrs Carruthers.

Grange-over-Sands resident Ian Chick, who took his two children along to meet the group, said screaming teenage fans gave the afternoon a touch of Beatlemania.

“There were certainly a few teenage girls struggling to breathe! You never get people that famous in Cark so it was a big deal for them to see people from the telly,” he said.

His ten-year-old daughter Emily managed to get autographs and a picture with the group. “They were really nice. All my friends at school wished they had been there too,” said the Grange Primary School pupil.

This is the second time the Brit award-winning band have been spotted in the area after they were seen filming at Malham Cove, in The Yorkshire Dales.
