What is the best thing about the Lakes? The wonderful, diverse scenery which in many places is unspoilt by development and is so accessible to almost everyone who wants to see it.

And the Worst? At times it has to be the above average rainfall. Inadequate car parking and traffic during peak times can also be a problem.

What is YOUR favourite place in the Lake District? Standing on top of Arnside Knott on a clear day and admiring the stunning panoramic views over the Lakeland hills and Morecambe Bay.

It makes you feel uplifted and privileged to live here.

What is your favourite place to eat? For that special occasion, lunch for locals at Miller Howe is superb.

The food and surroundings are excellent and this is one of the perks of living in the area. De-Ja-Vue in Kendal is another of my favourites.

What is your favourite place to shop? I am not much of a shopper but I do recognise that the Lakes offers a wide and interesting variety of shops.

What is your favourite memory of the Lakes? A surprise birthday picnic organised by my wife on the beach at Silecroft.

It was a magical day with all the elements coming together with good food, good weather, good company and a peace and tranquillity to unburden your soul.

Coming a close second was climbing Coniston Old Man on a lovely crisp but sunny day with close friends and finding not only a majestic view but several inches of undisturbed sparkling snow.
