WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT THE LAKE DISTRICT?

Without a doubt the amazing landscape we have. I feel so lucky to live and work in a beautiful area, where the locals have a real passion to protect it and make sure it remains a special place in the future.

AND THE WORST?

More needs to be done to prevent the loss of community in some parts of the Lake District where second homes dominate. It’s sad that this can result in the closure of schools and shops and at the same time hike up the house prices.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE IN THE LAKE DISTRICT?

There are so many. I am lucky enough to be able to take a short walk from my front door up School Knott and be able to see as far as the Langdales one way and to the sea in the opposite direction – but the moment my favourite place is Carus Green golf course.

It’s so peaceful when I get the chance for a few holes after work. FAVOURITE PLACE TO EAT?

The new tapas menu at Hawkshead Beer Hall, Staveley, is a great addition, while Francine’s in Windermere never disappoints and lunch at Cragwood House is a must.

FAVOURITE PLACE TO SHOP?

Daisy Chain Studio - the little gift shop - in Staveley. I dare you to go in and not buy anything. Musgrave’s in Windermere is brilliant, too, a real treasure trove.

FAVOURITE MEMORY OF THE LAKES?

Attending the wedding of two great friends at Cragwood House Hotel. It was a hot sunny day and we celebrated on the terrace overlooking Windermere with Pimm’s and canapés – it doesn’t get much better!
