YOUNGSTERS hoping to join Heysham Power Stations’ apprentice programme are being offered a chance to meet staff at an open day on Saturday, January 7, at the site’s Visitor Centre.

Heysham power stations, which took on 13 apprentices last year, are running an ‘information morning’ at the Visitor Centre starting at 10am.

More than 60 people attended a similar open day at the stations just before Christmas.

Apprentice co-ordinator Kevin Demain is also visiting schools and colleges to talk to students about the programme.

On Saturday, January 7, people interested in the training programme can meet some of the sites’ apprentices who have been through the training scheme.

The closure date for applications is January 15, 2017. Successful applicants will then take tests, followed by interviews and then join an assessment centre before the final selection is made.

EDF Energy’s apprentices all train together at HMS Sultan training centre, near Portsmouth, and successful applicants and their families are taken to `see the excellent facilities’ in May.

Away from the classroom the apprentices enjoy excellent sports and leisure facilities under the watchful eye of the centre’s own team. EDF Energy’s apprentices also undertake an extensive life skills package along with some cultural visits to European cities.

After two years, the apprentices return to their home sites to complete their apprenticeship with on-the-job training

• Applications for the apprentice programme is now open, and is through the EDF Energy careers website.
