THE BATTLEFIELD of the future could feature 'drone swarms' after the completion of a UK defence project at RAF Spadeadam, near Brampton.
A swarm of 20 drones recently took part in country's largest military focused trials, part of a Defence Science and Technology Laboratory competition.
The £2.5m contract for the project's phase three was awarded to a team led by Blue Bear Systems Research and included Plextek DTS, IQHQ, Airbus and Durham University.
The laboratory's project technical authority, said: ""This is a significant step forward in our understanding of the capabilities of swarming drones."
