Booths has encouraged customers to shop outside of the hours of 9:30-11:00 to allow elderly customers to get the items they need.

This comes after increased panic buying due to Coronavirus.

The store's announcement asked customers to “please buy only what you and your family need.”

It also encouraged shoppers to look out for those who may need help with their shopping.

Customers Beryl and Ken Tulley, 68 and 71 of Beezon Rd, Kendal commented: “I’ve been hunting for some items, yesterday we went to Iceland for their designated hour and it was a lot quieter, we managed to get tinned tomatoes and items we couldn’t find in other places. If we can’t get out I’ll be worried about getting fresh items. Where we live you can’t get milk deliveries.”

They also said:“Supermarkets are having their hour too early, Sainsburys is 7am to 8am, for a lot of elderly people it takes longer to get up in the morning.”
