Another 294 people in East Lancashire have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

The biggest daily rise in new infections was recorded in Blackburn with Darwen, with Burnley and Pendle also recording a marked increase in positive tests.

It takes the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases across East Lancashire to 9,316 since the start of the pandemic, (10,520 inc. Chorley).

Blackburn with Darwen recorded 81 new cases, Burnley 57 new cases, and Pendle 40 new cases.

The data is compiled based on people being tested both through tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

As of Wednesday, October 7, the number of people testing positive for the coronavirus in Blackburn with Darwen has risen by 81 taking the total from 3,083 to 3,164.

In Burnley, another 57 people tested positive taking the total number of confirmed cases in the borough to 1,703.

Chorley's confirmed cases have jumped from 1,173 to 1,204, an increase of 31 since Tuesday.

While in Hyndburn, positive cases are now standing at 1,261, up 42 from 1,219 on Tuesday.

Pendle has seen a rise of 40 confirmed cases taking the total to 1,747.

The number of people testing positive in the Ribble Valley has also jumped from 495 to 532, an increase of 37; while in Rossendale, 37 more positive test have been confirmed taking the borough's total to 909.

Five new coronavirus related deaths have been reported at four of Lancashire's hospitals, with one at a hospital within the East Lancashire NHS Trust.

Two deaths were recorded at hospitals within Lancashire NHS Foundation Trust, one at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, and one at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals.

The total number of Covid-19 deaths recorded within Lancashire's hospital trusts since the start of the pandemic is 1,077.
