LOOK south at around 11pm on the next clear night for a bright red star very low in the sky, just clearing the treetops. This is Antares, a red supergiant star so much bigger than the Sun it would swallow up Mars if put in the Sun's place.
Speaking of the Sun, weather permitting we're having a ‘Sun Watch’ at Kendal Museum from 1pm on Saturday afternoon (June 29). Come along to see giant sunspots - safely through a special telescope - and learn all about our nearest star.
Remember to keep looking for noctilucent clouds too. The season's peak is approaching...
