There has been reporting about speed limits recently. May I point out a substantial oddity and waste of money I recently noticed near Kirkby Lonsdale?
Approaching from the north on the A65, one enters a 50mph limit just before the BP filling station – reasonable enough. After a few hundred yards, the limit ends and one can accelerate to the national speed limit of 60mph – for 0.1 miles, when the limit drops to 40mph!
Please could someone explain why new posts with the signs indicating the beginning (or end depending on the direction of travel) of this section just 0.1 mile from the 40 mph limit were necessary rather than mounting the 50mph signs on the 40mph posts and abandoning this ludicrous 150 yards of the national speed limit?
