KENDAL COUNTY crashed out of the West Lancashire Football League Challenge Cup after suffering penalty shoot-out agony at Todmorden Borough.
The away side dominated the first-half and took the lead on the half-hour mark, Gary Baker applying the finish after good build-up play on the wing.
The tide was turned in the second period as Todmorden controlled proceedings and equalised through Ben Whittam after County failed to clear a corner.
With the scoreline level at full-time, the game went straight to penalties with Lloyd Trippett, Chris Vincent and Gary Baker all seeing their spot-kicks saved as Todmorden prevailed 3-2.
With half the pitch at The Strand submerged and two feet of water in the clubhouse, Milnthorpe Corinthians’ league clash with Walney Island was postponed.
Games involving GSK Ulverston, Furness Cavaliers and Askam United all failed to beat the elements with only one game in Division Two surviving – previously winless Barrow Wanderers winning 2-1 at Stoneclough.
Elsewhere, Dalton United were thumped 4-0 at Bolton County while Alan Greenwood score twice as Lytham Town inflicted a 2-0 home defeat on Furness Rovers.
The Hillard Park pitch was deemed unplayable as Ambleside United’s match with Hesketh Bank was postponed while Slyne with Hest’s Premier Division fixture at Thornton Cleveleys went the same way.
