RUNNERS are preparing themselves for one of the fastest local races on the calendar.
The Kirkby Moor fell race is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 29.
It is an 11.1 kilometre navigational event that will see runners attempt to make their way over rolling moorland.
The race provides a tricky course for even the most experienced runners as they battle for supremacy across a mixture of heather, sheep tracks and, on occasion, the access tracks for the windmills.
It is not especially high or steep and is renowned as being a good race for beginners or road runners looking to break into the fell racing scene.
Some parts are notoriously tricky and navigation can prove difficult in the November fog.
The men will be looking to beat last year's winner Mark Addison of Helm Hill Runners who romped home in a time of 49 minutes and seven seconds - nearly two minutes ahead of his nearest rival.
For the ladies, Anna Lupton of Black Combe Runners is the one to beat as she recorded a time of 59 minutes and 20 seconds last year.
The race starts at Beckside at 11am and registration takes place in the village hall at 9:30am.
Entry costs £4.50.
