THE season may have only just ended, but the search is already on for new talent to join next season's squad, says Kendal Director of Rugby Chris Hayton.

"We are already looking to next season, building on lessons learned and looking to replace players who have left the club," he said.

"Once again we will be looking to bring in a couple of foreign players to add to our growing pool of homegrown talent.

"As always the balance will be crucial and the scouting team has already made contact with several players who fit the bill."

Looking back at last weekend's final game of the season he said: "It was good for the players to finish on a high, edging out Carlisle in a hard fought cup final.

"Kendal's superior mauling proved the difference between the sides, but it was the exciting running of Carlisle's Lewis Boyd which caught the eye.

"We went ahead against the run of play when Nick McKain raced 65 metres after a quick tap penalty taken by the ever alert James Gough.

"The rest of the game developed into a clash of styles with both sides out on their feet at the end.

"In some ways the game was like the season - ups and downs, promise and disappointment. Meanwhile the promising under-17s have their last game on Sunday in the final of the Halbro Lancashire and Cheshire Cup at Fleetwood.

"It promises to be a tough game on the end of a tough season, but with the league title already under their belt the team is looking forward to their last game as juniors before they move into senior competitions next season."
