ROOKIE keeper Scott Davies is ready for Wembley battle if he gets his chance to impress between the sticks in Sunday's play-off final.

The 21-year-old is in line for a dramatic appearance at the national stadium after first choice Steven Drench suffered the heartache of a dislocated elbow.

"It's awful for Drenchy," says Davies. "I room with him on away trips and spend a lot of time training with him and it is terrible that he misses out.

"But he has told us to win the game and get into the Football League in time for when he is fit."

Davies has impressed when called upon this season and adds: "It is a dream. Every player wants to go to Wembley and not all that many get a chance."

To cover for the injury to Drench boss Sammy McIlroy has signed Preston North End youngster Chris Neal on emergency loan.

The Shrimps were given special dispensation to sign Neal, 21, who has made one senior appearance for Preston.

The manager is likely to stick with Davies, but Neal, who has just penned a new Deepdale contract, is ready to play.

"Preston boss Paul Simpson called me into his office the other day and asked me if I wanted to go to Wembley - it didn't take me long to say yes.

"I am here to help out and this is an excellent opportunity to be involved with a squad at Wembley.

"It will be a great experience - and I have beaten a few of my Preston team-mates to getting there which is nice."
