WINDERMERE Hockey Club enjoyed double success at the weekend when their men's first team retained the Cumbria Cup on Saturday and their U10 Boys became champions of the North at Leeds on Sunday.

Saturday's victory was Windermere's fourth successive Cumbria Cup triumph and, while not quite as dominant as last year, they still beat Kendal 5-1 in their opening game, then defeated South Lakes 2-0 before finishing the day with a classy 4-0 victory against Keswick and West Cumbria.

It was the club's next generation's chance to shine on the university pitches at Weetwood, Leeds, on Sunday and shine they did. After beating Preston 7-0 in their first match, Mere's youngsters went on to beat Sheffield 2-0 and Chester 2-1 in their other group games. They drew their semi-final with Doncaster 1-1 in normal time before going through 3-2 on penalty strokes. They faced Deeside Ramblers in the final and won 1-0 with a controlled display of pass-and-move hockey.
