THE well-being of football fans across the UK could be safeguarded thanks to a safety initiative being pioneered in Cumbria.
The Football Licensing Authority, the body which implements the Government's football stadium safety policies, is looking at the possibility of using Cumbria County Council's sports ground safety scheme in some of the country's biggest football clubs.
CCC has developed a range of measures including inspections of stewards during matches.
Chair of the CCC development control and regulation committee Geoff Prest said: "The work of our sports ground safety officer Liam Briggs in developing many of these new innovations has sparked a great deal of interest from other authorities and agencies involved in safeguarding spectators' well-being."
